Celebrate the greatest 2 minutes in sports as you sip an iconic Kentucky Derby cocktail and snack on some race day favorites. This classic mint julep recipe is perfect for Derby Day parties and summer entertaining. And Mint Juleps aren't only for Derby Day-you'll find your julep cups coming in handy all summer long.
The mint julep was served at the first Kentucky Derby, just as it would have been served at many establishments during that time period. Kentucky Colonel Mint (variety) was grown on the grounds here at Churchill Downs in 1875, the perfect way to use this fragrant plant. There are several ways to make a mint julep, I enjoy this traditional method. My twist is the dried orange, as the ice melts and the orange settles into the drink the flavor melds with the bourbon and mint for an extra special treat. This Southern cocktail recipe is a timeless bourbon cocktail that's become synonymous with Derby traditions.
